Snowdrift Alpaca/Merino Felt

Some alpaca fiber is too short to mill into yarn or roving – so we make it into felt!

Natural white alpaca fiber is blended with Merino wool (10-15%) and needle felted by machine into a large sheet. The wool helps strengthen and stabilize the alpaca fiber. All sheets are about 1/4 inch thick but sheets vary in length and width. The exact dimensions for each available sheet are listed above. 

Our alpaca felt is more lightweight, flexible and fuzzy than most commercially available felt. It can be made denser by additional needle felting or wet felting by hand.

So what do you do with a big felt sheet? Here are some project ideas for our mill-made felt! 

•  As a fabric. Use it for vests, jackets, bags, pouches or banners.
•  As applique. Cut out shapes and sew or felt onto other fabrics.
•  For needle felting. Use as a canvas for flat works or sculpt it into forms. 
•  As a hat. The felt can be further shaped into a range of shapes.
